In 2009, I was looking to get into real estate investing and wanted to buy my first foreclosure as a rental home. I paid $499 to attend a seminar on foreclosures . . . what a waste. For months I was in a tail-spin, as I had no luck because many of the foreclosed homes had code violations. A friend in Orlando suggested me to Altura, and they were very knowledgeable of the whole process. After speaking with Shaun Rourke, he held my hand from the beginning and we found the perfect house. It's a cute rental and I have a great tenant. My goal is to own ten rental homes , so I can't wait to buy my next one.
I moved to Orlando from New York, where I was an investor, as well. When I called Altura, they put me in touch with Brendon Spalding. I was new to the area and I did not know where to buy. I told him I liked rehabbing homes and I wanted to flip five homes a year and I wanted to make around 25k on each deal. Within a few days, he showed me a foreclosed home in Maitland, FL. I loved it and the area, but I didn't know any contractors to help me out with the rehab. That was not a problem, as Brendon provided me with an "Approved Contractor List." I had my bids in two days and the rehab project was a success.
When I was in Orlando visiting with my family from the U.K., I wanted to take a good look at the housing market. It is fair to say, I was very aware of the foreclosure mess America was going through at the time. Also, I knew the Euro sized up pretty fair compared to the dollar and all signs pointed to buying now. After consulting with my real estate investment group back home about the Orlando area, I decided to add to our portfolio. After visiting Altura's website, I arrange a meeting with them. Long story short, I have purchased seven homes from Altura in Orlando, all of which were foreclosures. We have been back several times, as we love making Orlando our favorite business vacation.
